Does the forcible expulsion of women, young and old men, into open country and neighbouring states of, or including, the same ethnic group, the detention of thousands of men of fighting age, given that an externally supported insurgency is taking place, as well as the murder of many others, though in themselves extremely serious matters, constituting what has become known as ‘ethnic cleansing’ and potentially amounting to crimes against humanity, actually mean that genocide is being carried out? ('genocide': the deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political or cultural group - Webster’s)

Events unfolding in Kosovo call for an urgent response, especially as we are subject to seemingly endless and frustrating propaganda. For that reason, a comprehensive analysis piece, from Covert Action Quarterly, Fall '98, entitled "Seeing Yugoslavia Through a Dark Glass: Politics, Media and the Ideology of Globalization", by Diana Johnstone has been added to this page. An earlier article from Dialogue, Spring '98, entitled "Notes on the Kosovo Problem and the International Community" could also be consulted for further details.
