Yes, the Nazis also took the Christ out of Christmas - just like big business now!

Christmas... the word our biggest firms dare not use
By Sarah Westcott
Daily Express 16th December 2006

POLITICALLY correct companies were criticised last night for removing Happy Christmas from their cards in case they offend anyone.

An increasing number of corporate giants are ditching Christmas in favour of bland phrases like Season's Greetings for fear of causing offence in a multi-cultural society.

Lloyds-TSB, BP, drinks firm Diageo and the Ministry of Defence are among those which have wiped all reference to Christmas from their cards, including traditional favourites such as angels, the Three Kings and even Santa Claus.

Fewer than one per cent of Christmas cards now have any¬thing to do with Jesus.

One of Britain's biggest specialist card-makers told last night how firms are leaving Christmas off their cards "almost without exception".

But corporate card publisher James Kelsey defended the move, saying many were worried about offending non-Christians.

A bishop, MPs and Muslim groups hit out at the move, stressing that "aggressive secularism" was unnecessary.

Mr Kelsey admitted few had the nerve to put Christmas on their cards. "Most of the clients that I work with are FTSE 250 companies," he said. '

"Almost without exception they go for Season's Greetings. They all want to be politically correct. They are global businesses with global customers, and it makes sense for them not to offend anyone." He added: "I'm not sure whether people of other religions are actually that bothered. But I think it's important that companies make the effort not to offend them.

"It's just being considerate to those who are not Christians." Most Cabinet ministers have also avoided Christian images on their cards. Around half have the Season's Greetings message without mentioning Christmas, including Home Secretary John Reid, who has led a "plain common sense" blitz against political correctness.

But Tory MP and Daily Express columnist Ann Widdecombe said: "Christmas should be celebrated as Christmas. If cards don't reflect the Christmas message you might well think what is the point of sending them?" .

The Bishop of Burnley, the Rt. Rev. John Goddard, said: "The season of Christmas is very precious to Christians but it is ignorant political correctness to say it affects Muslims.

"It is to do with those who want to remove our Christian heritage and replace it with aggressive secularisation."

The Muslim Council of Great Britain said it did not object to Christmas cards. A spokesman said: "Getting such cards is no problem whatsoever."
