What distance from the epicenter of the earthquake is safe if you live in the city? We just had an earthquake some 20 kilometers from here 4,5 richter and it was shaking good. And also how do you know is this the main shock or there will be a stronger one?

Well depends on how strong it is. But i think more important thing is how deep earthquake occurred. It is not the same if it's a couple of km deep or couple hundreds of meters..

Anyway, when an earthquake occurs it can be dangerously for everyone, no matter if happens 20 km from you or more or less..
