Early signs are that the Obama administration may be the most Bilderberg-dominated US administration ever! A mantra of change?

Obama intends to quickly settle on a secretary of treasury to help bring stability to the country's shaky economy. Timothy Geithner, president of New York's Federal Reserve Bank, and Larry Summers, the former treasury secretary in the Clinton administration, are believed to be the leading contenders.

Defense Secretary Bob Gates is expected to be asked to stay on the job. Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel may be a backup contender for the job.

Former Clinton United Nations Ambassador Richard Holbrooke, is a dark- horse candidate for secretary of State.

Another governor and also an early Obama supporter, Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas, is a favorite of the president-elect and probably could have her choice of several top Cabinet posts.

Former Senator Sam Nunn of Georgia, who has attracted Obama's attention as a leader of anti-nuclear proliferation efforts, is another possibility.

Summers, 53, is favored to return to the Treasury post that he held under President Bill Clinton because Obama values his experience and familiarity with markets and global leaders, a crucial asset during the markets crisis.

Still, people close to the president-elect stress no final decision has been reached and that Timothy Geithner, president of the New York Federal Reserve, is also a strong contender. Geithner would also be welcome by many in the financial community; at age 47, he would be a fresh face in an administration that ran on a mantra of change.

A leading candidate for Defense would be retiring Republican Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska. Hagel accompanied Obama on his trip to Afghanistan and Iraq in July, and the two have become close.

The choice of treasury secretary, arguable the most important Cabinet level job given the current economic crisis, should go to either New York Federal Reserve Bank President Timothy Geithner or New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine, at least according to Stan Collender, managing director at Qorvis Communications in Washington. Larry Summers, a former treasury secretary during the Clinton administration, is also in the running.

On the Sunday morning talking heads' This Week with Gergen, Zakaria, and Stephanopoulos, Gergen sees Larry Summers as the top candidate for US Treasury Secrtary, noting that Summers' column in Financial Times is highly regarded. For Secretary of State, Skull and Bones Kerry, Dachsle, and Hillary Clinton were seen a current top runners - no mention of Holbrooke. For Secretary of Defense, perhaps Colin Powell if Gates is replaced.
